The Belén District
Iquitos, Peru

The light shines

in the darkness

With a population estimated of 1/2 million people, Iquitos is the largest city in the world inaccessible by road. Due to its isolation and remoteness, Iquitos is an area overcome with prostitution, drug addiction, crime, and poverty. Unfortunately, children continue to be one of the most vulnerable groups of people in the city of Iquitos. In fact, many children born in the slums or in the drug holes often die at a young age or are sold for less than $2.00.

The drug hole is across the street from the current school.

Our goal =
a new, elevated school
for the Belén Kids.

Goal #1
Raise $3,000 to purchase the land where the new school will be built.

Goal #2
Raise $120,000 to build the concrete, fully elevated school with secure doors and bathrooms.

The school will also operate Monday - Saturday with a newly developed curriculum.
